THE CHALLENGE

From calming the mind to strengthening muscles, time spent outdoors leads to a myriad of incredible healing benefits - and yet it remains a space that isn’t always welcoming for everyone. On a quest to change this, Gail Muller (long distance hiker coping with chronic pain) and Kris Hallenga (founder of CoppaFeel! breast cancer charity and cancer survivor) set out to hike Scotland’s beautiful West Highland Way, flipping the script on disability and inclusivity in the outdoors with each step of the path. We worked with Berghaus to produce a series of photos documenting this incredible journey, from training hikes along the wild Cornish coasts to arriving in Fort William months after. To capture everything we created a series of photos, content for social media, and a documentary film exploring the themes of invisible illness and the outdoors in depth.
